Louis and Freda Stile Athletics Field House

Louis and Freda Stile Athletics Field House is a 155,500-square-foot facility services all 19 varsity sports and includes three practice facilities, including a 120-yard football practice field surrounded by a six-lane, 300-meter track, a golf practice facility and a basketball and volleyball practice facility.

Built in 2004, the Louis and Freda Stile Athletics Field House is adjacent to the Student Recreation Center, Lee Jackson Field, Ocasek Natatorium, James A. Rhodes Arena and InfoCision Stadium. It is not only one of the finest indoor facilities in the region, but also among the best in the United States.

In 2023, the field house was updated with various renovation projects, including the Wentz Financial Group Basketball Player Development Center, the Akron Children’s Hospital Sports Rehabilitation Center, the strength and conditioning center and a new athletics equipment facility.

The Wentz Financial Group Basketball Player Development Center features full size collegiate game court and two half court work out areas. The facility houses six basketball hoops (two game hoops and four side buckets) with wireless shot clocks and a state-of-the-art video recording system.

The 8,000-square-foot strength and conditioning center was also renovated with new Sorinex flooring and strength training equipment. The area was also updated with new branding highlighted by a backlit A-logo.

The Zips' indoor golf facility is among the best in the nation and includes a putting green, bunker, video player development simulator and study lounge for the student-athletes.

Additional components include a training room, varsity locker rooms, athletic equipment and storage areas.

The Student Recreation Center includes such features as a four-lane, elevated running track, basketball courts, rock-climbing wall, recreational pool and weight room.

From Route 8 South: Exit Buchtel Avenue. Go straight through traffic light. Turn right on Carroll Street at the next traffic light. Turn left on Spicer Street. Make a right on Vine Street. From 77 North, Route 8 North, 76 West: Take 77 north/76West to Route 8 North. Take the first exit (Carrol Street/Buchtel). Turn left at the stop light. The second traffic light is the Carrol Street/Spicer Street Intersection. Turn left on Spicer Street. Make a right on Vine Street. Follow Vine Street to its end and make a right on S. Union Street. The Athletics Field House will be on your right.

From 76 East/77 South: Follow 76 East/77 South to the Route 8 North/Cuyahoga Falls exit. Take the first exit (Carrol Street/Buchtel). Turn left at the stop light. The second traffic light is the Carrol Street/Spicer Street Intersection. Turn left on Spicer Street. Make a right on Vine Street. Follow Vine Street to its end and make a right on S. Union Street. The Athletics Field House will be on your right.

From the West on Market Street: Take Market to Union Street and follow Union to Buchtel Avenue. At Buchtel turn left and go to the first traffic light. Turn right at the light onto Spicer Street. Make a right on Vine Street. Follow Vine Street to its end and make a right on S. Union Street. The Athletics Field House will be on your right.

From the West on Exchange Street: Take Exchange to Spicer and turn left. Turn left on Vine Street. Follow Vine Street to its end and make a right on S. Union Street. The Athletics Field House will be on your right.
