LEESBURG, Va. - Brad Wright (Cambridge, Ohio-Cambridge HS), Colin Clemente (Hubbard, Ohio-Warren JFK HS) and Ryan Gutowski (Copley, Ohio-Copley HS) finished round one of the Georgetown Hoya Invitational in the top-25 as the University of Akron finished the day in a three-way tie for sixth place Saturday at the par-72, 7,063-yard Landsdowne Golf Club in Leesburg, Va.
The three combined for a score of 5-over-par as the Zips carded a score of 11-over 299 and are tied with William & Mary and Saint Joseph's. Mid-American Conference foe Eastern Michigan grabbed the lead after firing an even-par 288.
Wright ended round one tied for seventh place with an even-par 72, carding a 34 on the front nine while finishing with a 38 on the back nine. Clemente posted identical 37's on the front and back nines to finish tied for 14th place with a 2-over 74. Gutowski ended the day with a 3-over 75 to end the day tied for 25th place after firing a 37 on the front nine and a 38 on the back nine.
Vaughn Snyder (Massillon, Ohio-Canton Central Catholic) opened his round with a 41 on the front nine before rebounding with a 37 on the back nine to finish with a 6-over 78 and tied for 43rd place. Ryan Culbertson (Wooster, Ohio-Wooster) rounded out the squad in a tie for 53rd place at 8-over 80 after posting a 39 and 41 on the front and back nines respectively.
The Zips will wrap up this year's event tomorrow morning with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m.
