Akron Golf Posts Fourth Top-10 Finish Of Season In Virginia

LEESBURG, Va. - Freshman Brad Wright (Cambridge, Ohio-Cambridge HS) posted his third top-25 finish in four events this season as the University of Akron men's golf team posted a seventh-place finish following the final round of the Georgetown Hoya Invitational Sunday at the par-72, 7,063-yard Landsdowne Golf Club in Leesburg, Va.
Akron finished the day with a team score of 16-over 592 after posting a round of 5-over 293 on the final day. Mid-American Conference foe Eastern Michigan won the event with a two-round total of 2-over 578 after posting a 2-over 290 in the final round.
The Zips'four-straight top-10 finishes to open the Fall 2005 season is one shy of their best start since joining the MAC, a streak of five-straight top-10 finishes during the Spring 2003 season. Akron extended that streak to seven-consecutive top-10 finishes with a tie for second at the Fairway Club Invitational and a tie for fourth at the Northern Collegiate in the following Fall 2003 season.
Wright carded a final-round 3-over 75 to end the day in a five-way tie for 17th place at 3-over 147. Ryan Gutowski (Copley, Ohio-Copley HS) finished one shot behind Wright at 4-over 148 after firing a final round of 1-over 73.
Vaughn Snyder (Massillon, Ohio-Canton Central Catholic) equalled
Gutowski's round of 1-over 73 on the day to move into a tie for
33rd place at 7-over 151. Ryan Culbertson (Wooster, Ohio-Wooster)
posted the best round of the day for the Zips and improved on his
first-round 80, carding a round of even-par 72 to finish in a tie
for 38th at 8-over 152.

Colin Clemente (Hubbard, Ohio-Warren JFK HS), who started the round in a tie for 14th place, dropped to a tie for 42nd place at 9-over 153 after carding a final round of 7-over 79.
The Zips close out the fall season when they travel to Winter Garden, Fla., for the Big East-MAC Challenge November 5-6.
