Akron Golf Has Mixed Performance On Day One of Earl Yestingsmeier Invite

MUNCIE, Ind. - After struggling during round one with a 14-over 294, the University of Akron men's golf team rebounded with a 4-over 284 to finish day one of the 2005 Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational in ninth place at the par 70, 6,500-yard Delaware Country Club in Muncie, Ind.
The Zips ended day on with a team score of 18-over 578 and are 13 shots out of fifth place while Mid-American Conference foe and invitational-host Ball State fired rounds of 2-under 278 and 5-under 275 to grab the first-day lead with Austin Peay at 7-under 553.
Brad Wright (Cambridge, Ohio-Cambridge HS) led the Zips in a tie for 12th place on day one, carding rounds of 1-over 71 and 1-under 69 to finish at even-par 140. Wright had an up and down second round, including a career-high five birdies, but also struggled with two bogeys and one double bogey.
Colin Clemente (Hubbard, Ohio-Warren JFK HS) finished three shots behind Wright with a 3-over 143, good for a 22nd place tie after posting rounds of 1-over 71 and 2-over 72 while Vaughn Snyder (Massillon, Ohio-Canton Central Catholic) ended day one in a tie for 38th place at 7-over 147. Snyder carded rounds of 3-over 73 and 4-over 74.
Ryan Culbertson (Wooster, Ohio-Wooster), one week after a career performance, struggle with a first-round 9-over 79, but rebounded with a 1-under 69 and sits in a tie for 42nd place at 8-over 148. Culbertson, like Wright, had five birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey in the second round.
Sean Dove (Bulger, Pa.-Burgettstown) struggled in the first
round, carding a 15-over 85, but was able to rebound with a
second-round 4-over 74 to finish tied for 74th at 19-over 159.
