Akron Golf In Fifth Place After First Day

CHARDON, Ohio - In his first action as a collegiate golfer, freshman Vaughn Snyder (Massillon, Ohio-Canton Central Catholic HS) carded rounds of 3-over 74 and 2-under 69 to finish in a tie for sixth place while the University of Akron men's golf team is in fifth place after the first two rounds of the Cleveland State Invitational Monday at the par 71, 7,080 yard Sand Ridge Golf Club.
Akron carded rounds of 11-over 295 and 6-over 290 to finish with a two-round total of 17-over 585. TCU held the first-day lead with a team total of 6-over 574.
Snyder finished the day with a total of 1-over 143 and is two shots out of the top-five. Ryan Gutowski (Copley, Ohio-Copley HS) and Colin Clemente (Hubbard, Ohio-Warren JFK HS) finished the day tied for 28th place after posting identical first-day totals of 5-over 147. Clemente fired rounds of 1-over 72 and 4-over 75 while Gutowski posted rounds of 3-over 74 and 2-over 73.
Ryan Culbertson (Wooster, Ohio-Wooster), playing as an individual, entered the clubhouse tied for 42nd place with Sean Dove (Bulger, Pa.-Burgettstown) with a total of 8-over 150. Culbertson put up rounds of 3-over 74 and 5-over 76 while Dove carded rounds of 6-over 77 before rebounding with a round of 2-over 73 in the afternoon.
Brad Wright (Cambridge, Ohio-Cambridge HS) rounded out the Zips'
squad in a tie for 59th place after firing rounds of 3-over 75 and
8-over 79 for a total of 12-over 154.
