Zips Hit the Links at Hoya Invitational
October 19 | Men's Golf
- The University of Akron golf team will look to continue its
strong fall season this weekend at the Hoya Invitational.
The Zips will take to the par-71, 7,102-yard course at the Club at
Four Streams for 18 holes on Saturday morning and will wrap up the
tournament on Sunday with additional 18 holes.
"We have a chance to be very competitive this weekend," first-year
head coach
Tom
Porten said. "With this being just a two-round tournament it
will be extremely important for us to have a good start on Saturday
and not fall behind like we did in the last event."
Akron, which has finished no worse then ninth in any tournament
this season, currently ranks 82nd in the latest Golf Week
Magazine poll. The Zips trail just Kent State (37) and Eastern
Michigan (71) as one of the top-ranked teams in the Mid-American
Conference.
UA, which is coming off of an eighth-place showing at the Xavier
Invitational, has been idle since Oct. 3.
