Gombera and Sherlock Go 1-1 At ITA Regional

- The University of Akron duo of
Tanya Gombera (Harare,
Zimbabwe/Chisipite Senior School) and
Amy
Sherlock (Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada/Sacred Heart HS) posted
a 1-1 record on Friday in the doubles qualifier of the
Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional
Championships being held on the Michigan State campus.
Gombera and Sherlock defeated Youngstown State's Gina Peretti and
Nicole Haralambopolous 8-2 in the round of 32, then fell 8-0 to
Northwestern's Georgia Rose and Alexis Prousis. Rose and Prousis
earned a preseason ranking of sixth nationally.
The doubles champion from this event will earn a spot in the ITA
National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships hosted by Ohio State
at the Racquet Club of Columbus on Nov. 2-5.
The ITA regional closes out the Zips' fall schedule.
