Zips Finish Eighth at Xavier Invitational

Vaughn Snyder (Massillon,
Ohio/Canton Central Catholic HS) put together his best tournament
of the season to help guide the University of Akron golf team an
eighth-place finish at the Xavier Invitational on Tuesday at the
Oasis Golf Club.
After starting the event with an opening-round 74, Snyder posted
back-to-back rounds of 67 (five under par) to end the tournament
tied for seventh place with 208 strokes.
Blake Sattler (New
Philadelphia, Ohio/New Philadelphia HS) got off to a slow start on
Monday, posting rounds of 73 and 72, but got back on track today
with a four-under par-68 to conclude the tournament in a tie for
27th-place.
Sophomore
Brad Wright (Cambridge,
Ohio/Cambridge HS) (72-72-76) and senior
Ryan Culbertson (Wooster,
Ohio/Wooster HS) (75-74-70) finished tied in 49th-place with 219
strokes.
Ryan Gutowski (Copley,
Ohio/Copley HS) rounded out the Zips scorecard in a 53rd-place tie
with 220 (73-70-77) strokes.
As a team the Zips took 853 (292-280-281) swings at the par-72,
6,921-yard course. Akron finished just four strokes back of
Marquette, as spots four through eight were each separated by one
stroke.
The host school, Xavier, took top team honors with 830
(276-284-270) strokes and Xavier's own, Jason Kokrak won medalist
honors carding in a 14-under par score of 202 (65-69-68).
The Zips, who have finished ninth or better in each of the first
four events this fall, will return to the links on Saturday, Oct.
21, at the Hoya Invitational.
