The University of Akron Athletics
Snyder Named MAC Golfer of the Week
October 04 | Men's Golf
- On Wednesday the Mid-American Conference office named
University of Akron sophomore
Vaughn Snyder MAC Golfer of
the Week for his performance at the Xavier Invitational on Monday
and Tuesday. It marks the second straight week the Zips have won
the award as
Blake Sattler (New
Philadelphia, Ohio/New Philadelphia HS) took home the honors last
week.
Snyder (Massillon, Ohio/Canton Central Catholic HS) put together
his best tournament of the season to help guide Akron to an
eighth-place finish at the Xavier Invitational at the Oasis Golf
Club.
After starting the event with an opening-round 74, Snyder posted
back-to-back rounds of 67 (five under par) to end the tournament
tied for seventh place with 208 strokes.
The Zips got off to a slow start at the par-72, 6,921-yard course
posting an opening-round score of 292, but they rallied behind
Snyder, shooting 280 in round two and 281 in round three.
Akron rested in 15th after round one, but was able to regroup for
an eighth-place finish due in part to Snyder's sharp shooting.
UA finished just four strokes back of Marquette, as spots four
through eight were each separated by one stroke.
This is the first MAC Golfer of the Week award for Snyder this
season and second of his career. He and the rest of the Zips will
return to the links on Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Hoya
Invitational.
