Tennis Strong In Day Two Of Martha Thorn

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The Akron tennis team's
competition on Saturday in day two of the Martha Thorn Invitational
was highlighted by Kerry Langworthy advancing
to the semifinal round of flight B singles.
Langworthy, who defeated West Virginia's Colleen Speaker 6-4, 7-5
in Friday's opening round, topped Pittsburgh's Christie D'Archille
6-4, 6-3 in Saturday's quarterfinals before falling 6-2, 6-3 to
WVU's Stephanie LaFortune in the semis.
A Zips athlete also advanced to the semifinal round of the flight B
consolation bracket.
Amy
Sherlock bested Villanova's Lyndsey Lostritto 6-3, 6-1, then
bettered Pittsburgh's Anna Broverman 6-3, 6-0. Sherlock is set to
face WVU's Speaker in semifinal action.
UA's
Lindsey Berry and
Alyssa Carlson will face
one another in the flight C consolation bracket. Berry defeated
Robert Morris' Sarah Hancock 6-1, 6-1, while Carlson scored a 6-0,
4-6 (6) victory over Villanova's Dani Phillis to advance.
The three-day event, which is being hosted by West Virginia
University, is broken down into three singles flights and two
doubles brackets, and is not being team scored.
The invitational concludes on Sunday.
