DEKALB, Ill. - The University of Akron tennis team snapped its six-match losing streak with a 4-3 win over Northern Illinois on Friday at NIU's West Campus Tennis Courts.
Akron (5-13, 1-5 Mid-American Conference) scored all four of its points in the singles portion of competition. The Zips' Jenna Larson (Bismarck, N.D./Century) defeated Dora Delgadillo, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 2, while UA's Amy Sherlock (Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada/Sacred Heart) bested Megan Brooks, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 3.
UA's other two points came at the No. 5 and 6 positions by way of Northern Illinois (4-16, 0-5) forfeit as two Huskie players were sidelined due to illness.
NIU opened play with a win of the doubles point, notching an 8-3 edge at No. 1 and a 9-8 (5) decision at No. 2.
Akron is idle until April 21 when it plays host to Ball State at 1 p.m. EDT at Hyre Park.
