AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron tennis team fell 7-0 to Eastern Michigan on Saturday in a Mid-American Conference match at LaTuchie Tennis Center.
The Eagles (8-8. 3-2 MAC) met little resistance from the Zips (4-12, 0-4), sweeping doubles play and going through the singles portion of competition with relative ease.
The excitement of the afternoon came at the No. 1 singles spot, where UA's Tanya Gombera (Harare, Zimbabwe/Chisipite Senior School) and EMU's Elizabeth Syrova faced off in a marathon match that required a tiebreaker to decide the winner. Syrova got the decision 6-4, 7-6 (6).
Akron returns to the court next Tuesday (April 11) when it takes on Buffalo at 1 p.m. EDT at LaTuchie Tennis Center. That match was originally slated for April 1, but was rescheduled due to an emergency involving a UB team member.
