Three Zips Golfers Advance at Ohio Amateur

Three University of Akron men's golfers - Blake
Sattler (New Philadelphia, Ohio/New Philadelphia HS),
Vaughn Snyder (Massillon, Ohio, Canton Central
Catholic HS) and Ryan Gutowski (Copley,
Ohio/Copley HS) - made the 36-hole cut Wednesday at the 2006 Ohio
Amateur which is being held at the Canterbury Golf Club.
Sattler, a senior in the fall, is fifth after firing a 1-under-par
70 during Wednesday's second round. He trails leader Marty Miller
of Middletown by five strokes (6-under 146). Sattler, who was a
first-team All-Mid-American Conference selection in 2005 but sat
out last season, has a two-round total of 1-under 141. Jason
Gerksen of Logan is one shot off the pace at 5-under 137.
Snyder, a freshman last season, shot a 71 Wednesday and sits at
3-over-par 144 for the tournament, which places him tied for 13th.
Junior-to-be Gutowski made the cut by one shot. He is in a nine-way
tie for 50th at 9-over 151 (77-74).
Colin Clemente (Hubbard, Ohio/Warren JFK HS), a
junior in the fall, missed the cut by one shot. He posted a 3-over
74 Tuesday, but shot a 79 Wednesday.
Play continues today and tomorrow with 18 holes each day. Gutowski
tees off at 8:24 a.m. today, Snyder at 10:24 a.m. and Sattler at
11:09 a.m. There will be a second cut after 54 holes with only the
low 40 golfers (plus ties) making it to the final round.
