Sattler Finishes 11th at The Ohio Amateur
July 14 | Men's Golf
University of Akron golfer Blake Sattler (New
Philadelphia, Ohio/New Philadelphia HS) fired a final-round
1-under-par 70 Friday enabling him to finish 11th at the 2006 Ohio
Amateur, which was held at the Canterbury Golf Club.
Sattler posted a 72-hole total of 5-over 289 (71-70-78-70). He
rebounded from yesterday's 78 which left him in a four-way tie for
15th entering today's action. Sattler, a 2005 first-team
All-Mid-American Conference performer, was one of just five players
to break par on the day.
Jason Kokrak of Warren, the third-round leader, took title in the
100th year of the event. He shot even-par today and ended the
tournament at 7-under 277. Marty Miller of Middletown, the
second-round leader, held onto second place with a final-round 72.
Miller ended the event at 3-under 281. Kokrak and Miller were the
only players under par.
For Sattler it was his best showing at the Ohio Amateur. He was
26th in 2004 and tied for 30th last year. Sattler will be a senior
in the fall after redshirting last season due to illness.
Ryan Gutowski (Copley, Ohio/Copley HS) and
Vaughn Snyder (Massillon, Ohio, Canton Central
Catholic HS) were the other Zips golfers to advance to the final
round, though Snyder withdrew from today's action.
Gutowski, a junior this fall who made the 36-hole cut by one shot,
ended the tournament tied for 36th. He had a final-round 75 to
finish at 16-over 300 (77-74-73-76). He was tied for 32nd entering
the day, while Snyder was in a four-way tie for 19th.
