Tennis Opens Fall Season At Bowling Green
September 15 | Women's Tennis
- The University of Akron tennis team opens its fall schedule
this weekend by competing in the two-day Bowling Green
Invitational. Play gets underway on Saturday at 9 a.m. EDT and at
the same time on Sunday.
Bowling Green, Cleveland State, Dayton, UIC, Toledo, Xavier and
Youngstown State join the Zips in the non-team scored event, which
consists of seven flights of singles play and four doubles
brackets. A champion will be declared in each flight.
"The entire team can't wait to get out there this weekend and start
competing against someone in another jersey," first-year Akron head
coach Jeff Wyshner said. "We've had a great three weeks of
practice, and we've made a lot of progress already. Still, I expect
to learn even more about the players seeing how they compete for
the first time."
Akron returns seven players from last year's eight-person roster.
The only letterwinner lost was Jennifer Ales, who completed her
eligibility in May.
