Golf Finishes in Third at Wolverine Intercollegiate

- The University of Akron men's golf team carded in a
final-round score of 292 en route to earning a third-place finish
at the Wolverine Intercollegiate this weekend.
Akron rested in fifth place after yesterday's double round, but
was able to climb two spots to earn its first top-three finish of
the year. The Zips fired off 863 (281-290-292) strokes as a team,
finishing one stroke back of Michigan (862, 278-290-294) and 12
strokes back of Wisconsin (851, 285-279-287).
Sophomore
Brad Wright (So. Cambridge,
Ohio/Cambridge HS) led the Zips with a three-round score of 213
(71-68-74), earning an eighth-place finish.
Ryan Culbertson (Wooster,
Ohio (Wooster HS) (71-73-72) and
Blake Sattler (New
Philadelphia, Ohio/New Philadelphia HS) (70-74-72) each tallied 216
strokes and finished tied for 17th.
After posting an opening round two-under par-69,
Colin Clemente (Hubbard,
Ohio/Warren JFK HS) posted a second-round 75 and a final-round mark
74 to end the tournament with 218 strokes.
Ryan Gutowski (Copley,
Ohio/Copley HS) rounded out the Zips scoring with 229 (76-79-74)
strokes.
Mitch Gillis of Oregon State completed the par-71, 6,704 yard
course with 207 (65-70-72) strokes earn medalist honors.
Akron will return to the links on Friday, Sept. 22 at The
McLaughlan Tournament at Bethpage State Park - Red Course.
