Golf Gets Underway This Weekend
September 06 | Men's Golf
- The 2006 season will get underway for the University of Akron
men's golf team this weekend when they travel to DeKalb, Ill. to
participate in the Rich Harvest Farms Intercollegiate.
The Zips will have the opportunity to play at the Rich Harvest
Farms Course, site of the 2007 NCAA Men's Golf Regional, this
weekend. The par-72, 7,325-yard course is the home of fellow MAC
member and tournament host, Northern Illinois.
Akron will be under the tutelage of first-year head coach

Porten as it takes to the links for the first time this fall.
Prior to coming to UA, Porten spent 14 seasons as the head coach of
the men's golf program at Cleveland State University, including the
last six years as the head coach of both the men's and women's
teams. In 2006 he led the Vikings men's squad to the Horizon League
championship, earning league coach of the year honors. In addition,
two of his players were named to the All-Horizon League team.
Senior
