Gombera Advances To ITA Regional Round Of 16

ANN ARBOR, Mich. University of Akron tennis athlete Tanyaradzwa Gombera (Harare, Zimbabwe/Chisipite Senior HS) advanced herself into Friday's singles qualifying round of 16 at the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional Championships being held on the University of Michigan campus.
Gombera posted a 6-4, 3-6, 7-4 win over Iowa's Jessica Young in Thursday's round of 64, and then topped Minnesota's Danielle Mousseau 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 in the round of 32. Gombera will compete against Illinois' Kristina Minor on Friday in the round of 16.
Amy Sherlock (Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada/Sacred Heart HS) also represented the Zips in the event's singles qualifier, but lost 7-5, 6-2 to Ohio State's Cami Hubbs in Thursday's opening round.
Gombera and Sherlock will team up to compete in the doubles main draw on Friday. They will match-up with Michigan State's Lindsey Lonergan and Manon Noe in the round of 64.
The singles finalists and doubles
champion from this event will earn spots in the ITA National
Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in Columbus on Nov.
2-5.
