After two rounds, Zips tied for fifth at Xavier Invitational

Loveland, Ohio -The University of Akron men's
golf team is tied for a solid fifth place at the Xavier
Invitational today after two rounds.
The Zips finished the first 18-holes on the par-72, 6,921 course
tied for second place with four players shooting under par.
However, strong play by Marquette University and Saint Mary's (CA)
resulted in a UA fifth place tie after the second round.
"Even though we dropped a few spots from round one we have put
ourselves in a good position for a strong finish," head coach Nick
Goetze said. "Some smart golf from the guys tomorrow will help us
shoot a solid round."
The Zips sent a strong team to the invitational in two seniors,
Colin Clemente and Ryan Gutowski, junior Vaughn Snyder, sophomore
Jacob Patte and freshman Drew Davidson.
Clemente, the Zips consistent leader on the year, led Akron during
both rounds. He concluded day one tied overall for seventh. He shot
3-under par in both rounds for a total of 138 (69-69) strokes.
Snyder, competing in his second tournament of the year, ended the
day in 18th place shooting 141 (70-71) strokes.
Tied for 36th place is Gutowski, with an overall two round total of
145 (71-74).
Rounding out the Zips scorecard is Davidson and Patte. Davidson is
51st overall 71-76 (147). Patte concludes two rounds at 76-73
(149). He is tied for 69th place.
The overall leader is Marquette shooting 295-266 (561).
Other teams participating in the invitational include: Austin Peay,
Bowling Green, Ball State, Campbell, Cincinnati, Davidson, Eastern
Kentucky, George Washington, Marshall, New Orleans, Ohio, San
Francisco, Western Carolina, Western Kentucky, Wright State,
Xavier.
Tomorrow's round will begin at 8 a.m. ET, with the pairings based
on today's 36-hole scores.
