Clemente leads Zips to seventh place Finish at Xavier
October 02 | Men's Golf
Senior Colin Clemente finished second overall with the
team taking a seventh place finish at the Xavier Invitational
today.
The Zips who finished the first 18-holes in second place fell to
fifth after two rounds and ended in the top half of the field in
seventh out of 20 teams.
"We have continued to put ourselves in good positions for our first
three events and this week was no different," head coach Nick
Goetze said. "Although we did not move up on our final round
today we are still moving in the right direction. Continuing to
focus on the fundamentals will be the key to our success as we
enter the last half of our fall season."
Clemente, who is relied on for his consistency, claimed his best
finish so far this fall firing 6-under par in the third round and
shooting 204 (69-69-66) overall on the par-72, 6,921-yard course.
Clemente is the only Zip during the event to shoot all three rounds
under par.
"Colin's finish this week will give him a lot of confidence and
help him to rally the team as we head to face the strongest field
of the year at the brickyard invitational next week," said coach
Goetze.
"Colin's consistency allows the rest of the guys to play more
relaxed," Goetze added. "Knowing that we can count on a good round
from him takes some of the pressure off the younger guys and lets
them play smarter, more patient golf."
Finishing second for the team and 24th overall out of a field of
104 players is junior Vaughn Snyder. He shot 214 (70-71-73) total
strokes.
Senior Ryan Gutowski took an overall 32nd place finish
shooting a three round total of 216 (71-74-71/E) strokes.
Freshman Drew Davidson was 55th overall shooting 221
(71-76-74). Sophomore Jacob Patte took a 67th place finishing
with a three round total of 223 (76-73-74).
Other teams in the invitational included: Austin Peay, Bowling
Green, Ball State, Campbell, Cincinnati, Davidson, Eastern
Kentucky, George Washington, Marshall, New Orleans, Ohio, San
Francisco, Saint Mary's (CA), Western Carolina, Western Kentucky,
