Tennis Travels To Queen City Invite

AKRON, Ohio The University of Akron tennis team returns to action on Friday when it competes in the Queen City Invitational at the Queen City Racquet Club in Cincinnati. The three-day event is being hosted by the University of Cincinnati and is scheduled to get underway at 9 a.m. EDT each day.
Last weekend, the Zips played their best tennis of the fall season at the Spartan Invitational at Michigan State. Highlighting the weekend was the play of senior Laura Hemlepp, along with the entire team's performance in doubles play. Hemlepp went undefeated in three singles matches in the No. 8 flight posting a 6-2, 6-0 win over Morgan Ungerott of Cleveland State, an 8-1 win over Meredith Lortie of Morehead State and a 6-3, 6-3 win over Stephanie Hill of Detroit.
Doubles highlights came on Sunday in the form of a sweep of Cincinnati's top three doubles teams. UA's Carolina Castro Cota and Tanyaradzwa Gombera paired to defeat the Bearcats' top team, 8-4. Jeremie Benjamin and Lindsey Berry followed up their No. 3 doubles win (8-4) on Saturday over Louisville with a No. 2 doubles win (8-5) over Cincinnati, and Kerry Langworthy and Alyssa Carlson won 9-7 at No. 3 doubles.
The Zips are in the second week of a busy three-week stretch, which concludes next weekend at the Toledo Invitational (hosted by the University of Toledo). Akron has no home events this fall.
