Men's Golf Heading to Georgia for Brickyard Collegiate

AKRON, Ohio - This
weekend The University of Akron men's golf team will be playing in
their toughest tournament yet as they head to Macon, Ga. to play in
the Brickyard Collegiate.
The Zips, who finished in seventh place at the Xavier Invitational last weekend will look to build from senior Colin Clemente's strong performance at the tournament. Clemente, took second place overall with 204 (69-69-66) strokes and earned Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week honors.
Along will Clemente, the Zips will
be sending senior Ryan Gutowski, junior Vaughn Snyder, sophomore
Jacob Patte and freshman Drew Davidson.
The tournament hosted by Mercer University, will be the largest event of its kind held at The Brickyard which now features a par-72, 7,128-yard layout. In 2007, Golf Digest ranked the course No. 12 in the state of Georgia.
The tournament opens Saturday with a practice round. The competition will begin Sunday morning and conclude Tuesday afternoon.
A total of 13 teams will participate in the 54-hole tournament, including 2007 national runner-up Georgia, 2007 co-ACC champion Georgia Tech, 2007 East Regional participant Clemson and 2007 West Regional champion South Carolina. Other teams in the field along with host Mercer include 2007 Regional participant Eastern Michigan, Furman, Gonzaga, 2007 Regional participant Hartford, Kennesaw State, 2007 Sun Belt Conference runner-up Middle Tennessee and Troy.
