AKRON, Ohio - First-year University of Akron
head tennis coach
Jeffrey Wyshner announced
on Thursday that Jeremie Benjamin has signed a
national letter of intent to play at the school beginning in the
fall of 2007. Benjamin is a senior at North Central High School in
Indianapolis.
"I am really excited that Jeremie is my first commitment at Akron,"
Wyshner said. "Not only is she a terrific person and player, but
she is an exceptionally hard worker. Jeremie is exactly the type of
player that can help us build a championship program at Akron. She
will have an immediate impact on our starting line-up next year,
yet because of her commitment and athleticism, I am really looking
forward to seeing how strong she will be a few years down the
road."
Listed among the top-10 prep seniors in Indiana by tennisrecruiting.net,
Benjamin earned all-conference and all-district honors as a
sophomore and junior. Additionally as a sophomore, she was named
all-county and honorable mention all-state. Her senior season began
earlier this week, and she is serving as a co-captain.
As a freshman she went undefeated in singles play, and helped guide
her team to the state title.
Benjamin has won over 30 USTA junior tournaments.
She is the daughter of William and Kurt Benjamin and her sister,
Cameron, played tennis at Bowling Green.
