April 06 | Women's Tennis
WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - The University of Akron tennis team lost 7-0 to Buffalo on Friday in a Mid-American Conference match at Village Glen Tennis Center.
The loss was Akron's fifth straight, and dropped it to 0-5 against league competition and 9-9 overall this season. Buffalo recorded its sixth win in seven matches, and improved to 4-1 against conference foes and 12-2 overall.
The Bulls jumped out to an early lead by earning the doubles point with relative ease - tallying 8-0 victories at Nos. 1 and 3, and an 8-2 margin at No. 2.
UB won all six singles matches in straight sets, with UA's most competitive effort coming at No. 5 where Alyssa Carlson lost 6-3, 6-4. The Zips' Tanya Gombera lost the first set of her No. 1 singles contest 6-4, but then fell 6-1 in the second. UA scored no more than two points in any of the remaining sets.
Akron will take the rest of the weekend off, and will compete next at Eastern Michigan on April 13 and at Toledo on April 14. The Zips were originally scheduled to play at Robert Morris on Saturday, but due to inclement weather that match has been postponed until April 18 at 2:30 p.m. EDT.
