Clemente & Wright Named Academic All-MAC
May 15 | Men's Golf
Colin Clemente and Brad
Wright each had a great season on the course, but they also had
a great year in the classroom as they each earned a spot on the
Academic All-MAC team as voted on by the league's Faculty Athletic
Representatives.
I am very proud of the achievements that both Colin and Brad have
made during their collegiate careers," head coach Tom Porten
said. "Both of them were very instrumental in helping our program
grow this year and I looking forward to having them back when we
get started in the fall."
Wright, a sophomore from Cambridge, Ohio (Cambridge HS), has
accumulated a 3.25 PGA in accounting and has been standout for the
Zips on and off of the course. This season he teamed-up with the
MAC and SAAC to help develop the "Change for Charity" birdie drive
which resulted in hundreds of dollars being donated to the Akron
Children's Hospital.
On the links he helped guide the Zips to a school-best second-place
finish at the MAC Championship tournament, finishing 7-under par
with a four-round total of 281 to end second overall and earn a
spot on the All-MAC Tournament team. The four-time MAC Golfer of
the Week winner and first-team All-MAC selection led UA with 21
rounds of par or better and nine top-10 finishes - including a
medalist performance at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate.
Clemente, a junior from Hubbard, Ohio (Warren JFK HS), has a
team-best 3.445 in biology and was a key cog in Akron's success on
the course this season. The two-time MAC Golfer of the Week winner
had a strong spring with five top-five finishes including
his first-career medalist award in a tri-match against Kent State
and Miami (Ohio).
Wright and Clemente are two of seven golfers that will return to
the Zips in 2007-08.
