Golf Sits Seventh After Day One
September 11 | Men's Golf
Chattanooga, Tenn. - The University of Akron men's golf team capped off day one of the Scenic City Invitational, firing off 571 strokes after two rounds to end the day in seventh place.
The Zips hit respectively in both rounds, hitting 283 in round one and 288 in round two to end the day three over par.
Senior Ryan Gutowski (Copley, Ohio/Copley), leads the way for Akron heading into day two tied for 27th. He shot a 1-under 71 in round one but was one over in round two hitting a total of 142 strokes on the day.
Junior Vaughn Snyder (Massillon, Ohio/Canton Central Catholic) is one shot back of Gutowski with 143 (70-73) strokes and rests in 29th place.
Last years Scenic City Invitational winner, Charlotte, currently leads the tournament with a 25-under par score of 543 (272-271). Tripp Harris from host school The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is the individual leader on the day heading into tomorrow's final round 9-under par with a score of 133 (64-69).
Round three will begin tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. EST.
