Benjamin Paces Tennis In Day One Of BGSU Invitational

Freshman Jeremie Benjamin (Indianapolis, Ind./North
Central HS) advanced herself to the finals of flight 6 singles to
highlight the University of Akron tennis team's first day of
competition on Saturday at the BGSU Invitational.
Benjamin will face Xavier's Jeanette Feider on Sunday in
championship play. The UA rookie topped Detroit's Kelly Davis 7-5,
7-5 in the day's opening round, and then defeated Cleveland State's
Lindsay Sellers 6-2, 6-1 to move into the title contest.
Akron also advanced four players into Sunday's singles consolation
finals, with freshman Carolina Castro Cota (Bogota,
Colombia/Ervid Integral HS) (flight 2), junior Kerry
Langworthy (Harare, Zimbabwe/Gateway HS) (flight 4), junior Alyssa
Carlson (Rockford, Ill./Rockford Lutheran HS) (flight 5) and
junior Lindsey Berry (Dayton, Ohio/Northmont HS) (flight
7) lining up in those spots.
In flight 1 doubles play, the UA team of junior Tanyaradzwa
Gombera (Harare, Zimbabwe/Chisipite Senior HS) and senior Amy
Sherlock (Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada/Sacred Heart HS) moved
into the winner's bracket with a 9-7 victory over Detroit's Annie
Moore and Zelika Minic.
Sunday's competition gets underway at 9 a.m. EDT at Bowling Green's
varsity tennis complex.
