Zips in Fifth after Two Windy Rounds

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Despite 30-35 mile per hour
winds the University of Akron men's golf team sits comfortably in
fifth place at the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate after day one.
The Zips were in eighth place after round one shooting 314 (+26)
as a team on the par-72, 7,525 yard course. However, their strong
second round play brought them to fifth with a two round total
score of 609 (314-295).
"Our solid play through a windy two rounds should position us
nicely for tomorrow," first year head coach Nick
Goetze said. "The guys did a nice job today."
Senior Colin Clemente lead the Zips after shooting 75-74
for a two round total of 149 which places him in a tie for
eighth.
Freshman Drew Davidson and sophomore Jacob
Patte are both tied for 18th place each shooting 79-73 for a
total of 152 for two rounds.
Rounding out the Zips five is freshman Doug Underwood and senior Ryan Gutowski shooting 81-75 for a total of 156 and (81-85) for a total of 166.
Miami (OH) leads the tournament with 583 (287-296) strokes.
The third and final 18 holes begin tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.
