Tennis Closes Out Busy Weekend With Three Wins

EVANSTON, Ill. The University of Akron
tennis team wrapped up a busy weekend of competition with three
victories on Sunday. The Zips had athletes involved in two events
the Wildcat Fall Invitational host by Northwestern and the
Fall Mid-American Conference Invitational on the Western Michigan
campus in Kalamazoo.
In Sunday's finals action at the Wildcat Invite, the UA doubles team of freshman Zara Harutyunyan and sophomore Anna Baronayte posted an 8-2 win over Northwestern's Keri Robison and Nazlie Ghazal to finish in third place in the Flight B consolation bracket. According to ITA preseason rankings, Robison (when teamed with Samantha Murray) is part of the No. 29 doubles team in the country and Nazlie Ghazal (when teamed with Maria Mosolova) is a member of the nation's No. 34 ranked doubles pair. Harutyunyan also scored a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Wisconsin's Alaina Trgovich in the Flight A consolation draw.
At the Fall MAC Invite, junior Kerry Langworthy earned a 6-4, 5-7, 6-0 win over Northern Illinois' Kathryn Friedlund in the Flight Four consolation final.
Over the weekend, Akron posted a 17-14 overall record in singles

Akron's next event is the ITA Regionals which begin on Oct. 23 on the campus of Michigan State.
