Men's Golf Sits in Eighth at Xavier Invitational
October 14 | Men's Golf
Loveland, Ohio- After a week off, The
University of Akron men's golf team resumed fall play Monday at the
Xavier Invitational ending day one in eighth place carding a
1-under 573 at the Oasis Golf Club.
"This morning was a steady start and we were in good shape for
round two," said head coach Nick
Goetze. "I think the guys felt they left a few strokes out
there so I expected some lower numbers for the afternoon."
"We played very consistent golf in round two," added Goetze.
"Scoring was a bit lower but our 1-under par performance put us in
good shape to post a solid finish tomorrow. We just need to stay
patient and take advantage of the birdie holes as we head to the
finish."
True freshman Ryan Mason (Bridgeport, WV/Bridgeport) leads the
Zips after day one and sits tied for 26th place after posting two
solid rounds on the day (72-71).
Junior Jacob Patte (Oshawa, Ontario/Eastdale Collegiate)
follows closely behind Mason tied for the 29th spot as he carded
two rounds of 72 (144).
Freshman Scott Landreth (Stratford, Ontario/St. Michael)
is third for UA, tied for 35th place, as he posted two rounds of
72-73 (145).
Senior David Addison (Stewarton, Scotland/Stewarton
Academy) and freshman Tim Lew (Courtice, Ontario/Courtice
Secondary) round out the Zips scorecard tied for the 43rd spot.
The 54-hole tournament welcomed 20 teams to the event including
four fellow Mid-American Conference schools in Bowling Green, Ball
State, Ohio and Toledo.
Other schools playing include Austin Peay, Campbell, Cincinnati,
Eastern Kentucky, George Washington, Marquette, Marshall, Maryland,

The final 18 holes will be played on Tuesday beginning with a
shotgun start at 8 a.m. (EST).
