Baronayte Advances to ITA Regional Round of 16

EAST LANSING, Mich. University of Akron tennis athlete Anna Baronayte advanced herself into Friday's singles qualifying round of 16 at the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional Championships being held at the Michigan State Indoor Tennis Facility. For the second-straight season a Zips player finds herself in the final round of qualifying play, as Tanyaradzwa Gombera did so in 2007.
Baronayte posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Eastern Illinois' Juliana Frey in Thursday's round of 64, and then topped Marquette's Christina Ruiz 6-2, 6-2 in the round of 32. Baronayte will compete against Toledo's Ashley Frey at 8:45 a.m. EDT on Friday in the round of 16.
Baronayte and UA freshman Zara Harutyunyan will team up to compete in the ITA doubles main draw on Friday at 5 p.m. They will matchup with Minnesota's Alessandra Ferrazzi and Tijana Koprivica.
The singles finalists and doubles champion from this event will earn spots in the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships.
