sophomore tennis player Anna Baronayte scored a 6-2, 6-3 victory
over Toledo's Ashley Frey on Friday
in the singles qualifier round of 16 at the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association
Midwest Regional Championships being held at the
Michigan State Indoor Tennis Facility. The victory places her in
the singles main draw, in which she will face off against Notre
Dame's Kali Krisik on Saturday.

regional qualifier to the main draw bracket. Coincidentally, she
suffered a 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (4) loss to Frey at the Spartan
Invitational at Michigan State on Sept. 27. UA freshman Zara Harutyunyan pre-qualified to compete
in the main draw and is also the first UA player to do so.
Harutyunyan will take on Michigan State's Whitney Wilson on
Saturday.
Baronayte and harutyunyan joined forces in the doubles main draw
and lost 9-8 (6) in Friday's opening round of 64 to Minnesota's
Alessandra Ferrazzi and Tijana Koprivica. All pairs defeated in the
opening round were moved into a one-match consolation bracket, and
the UA duo scored an 8-4 win over Evansville's Kate Chybowski and
Theadora Kotsiou.
The singles finalists and doubles
champion from this event will earn spots in the ITA National
Intercollegiate Indoor Championships.
