Men's Golf in Ninth at Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate
October 28 | Men's Golf
LAS CRUCES, N.M.- Led by freshman Tim Lew, The University of Akron men's golf team sits in ninth place at the 2008 Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate on the par 72, 7,074-yard New Mexico State University Golf Course.
"Despite cold and windy conditions, we put together a fairly
good round," said head coach Nick
Goetze. "Several of our guys were struggling early and hung
tough to get a few shots back late on the home holes. However, Tim
was the key this afternoon, his 5-under 66 kept our team score
competitive and very likely helped us improve our position."
Carding a 298 in round one the Zips finished round two at 293
which was led by Lew. After shooting a 75 in the morning round, Lew
(Courtice, Ontario/Courtice Secondary) finished impressively with a
66 in round two (141) tying him for seventh place.
Fellow freshman Ryan Mason (Bridgeport, WV/Bridgeport) is second for UA and tied for 36th place overall after carding two solid rounds of 74 (148).
