November 14 | Men's Golf
AKRON, Ohio -The University of Akron head men's
golf coach, Nick Goetze, recently announced the signing of
Georgia native Cameron Simmons to the 2009-10 roster.
"Cameron has a very solid national record and he'll be a key
addition to our team in 2009," said Goetze. "He possesses good
technique and an intelligent approach to his game that will allow
him to be a major contributor in our line up. In addition, the
fact that he is an excellent student and is supported by quality
parents makes him a perfect fit for the Akron family."
Hailing from Harrison High School in Acworth, Ga., Simmons, an
outstanding athlete and student, had racked up numerous awards and
honors during his prep career.
A two-time region winner in 2007 and 2008, Simmons led HHS to three
seasons of 33 or more wins with each year leading to the region
championship including a fourth place finish at the state
tournament as a freshman.
In tournament play, Simmons has finished in the top-10 of five
events including a first place finish at the Columbus Country Club
Classic in 2007. In that same year, Simmons finished tied for
second at the Callaway Gardens Junior Classic.
As a junior, Simmons finished T-10th at the Future Masters event,
T-5 at the Georgia Junior and T-10 at the state championship.
Nationally, Simmons has been ranked as high as #160 on the National
Junior Golf Scoreboard. Academically, Simmons was on the honor roll
three times posting a 4.0 cumulative grade point average.
After finishing the fall season with a third place finish, the
2008-09 Zips will return to play Feb. 22-23 for the UCF Rio Pinar
Intercollegiate in Orlando, Fla.
