Men's Golf to Wrap up Fall Season This Week
November 02 | Men's Golf
AKRON, Ohio-The University of Akron men's golf team will wrap up the fall season Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 3-4, at the Hummingbird Intercollegiate hosted by Western Carolina University at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley in Sapphire, N.C.
The 36-hole event will begin with tee times starting at 9:30 am on Monday morning, with the final 18 holes slated for Tuesday. There is, however, the potential for frost delays each morning as forecasts call for highs in the lower 60s with low temperatures in the lower 40s / upper 30s over the next three days.
The Country Club of Sapphire Valley is a private, member-owned
club that features a newly renovated valley golf course, new
clubhouse, state-of-the-art fitness center and tennis center. The
course meanders through the backdrop of a mature hardwood forest
and scenic mountains that provide for breath taking views and a
natural setting.
In addition to the host Western Carolina, the field includes
Gardner-Webb, Francis Marion, High Point, Radford, Winthrop,
Appalachian State, Elon, Furman, Samford and Wofford, as well as
nationally-ranked squads from Central Florida (34th) and Vanderbilt
(63rd).
The Zips are coming off a 12th place finish at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate after carding 298-293-288 (879). True freshman Tim Lew (Courtice, Ontario/Courtice Secondary) led the Zips finishing in sixth place carding three solid rounds 5-under 211. Lew's finish was his highest ever as a collegiate athlete and the highest of any Zip to date this fall.
Full results of the two-day event will be posted daily on www.GoZips.com.
