Men's Golf in Third at Hummingbird Intercollegiate

Sapphire, N.C.-The University of Akron's men's golf team sits in third place Monday afternoon after carding a 293 (+9) at the Hummingbird Invitational hosted by Western Carolina University at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley.
"We played well today and kept things together through a difficult stretch of holes on the back nine," said second-year head coach Nick Goetze. "Our three freshmen kept us in the mix today and we're excited to have a good pairing for the final round with Vanderbilt and Central Florida."
The guys are feeling good about tomorrow and we're looking forward to wrapping up the fall season on a good note."
Freshmen Scott Landreth (Stratford, Ontario/St. Michael)
leads the Zips for the first time this season tied for fourth place
of the 82-player field after carding a 70, his second-lowest
18-hole score to date as a collegiate athlete.
Fellow freshman Tim Lew (Courtice, Ontario/Courtice Secondary) and senior David Addison (Stewarton, Scotland/Stewarton Academy) are tied for 29th on the day after posting a 74 on the par-71, 6,767-yard course.
Newcomer Ryan Mason (Bridgeport, WV/Bridgeport) is tied
for 38th posting a 75 while junior Jacob
Patte (Oshawa, Ontario/Eastdale Collegiate) rounds out the Zips
scorecard putting up a 78.
The 34th ranked University of Central Florida leads the tournament holding a two-stroke advantage over second-place Vanderbilt (283).
The 36-hole event will complete with the final 18 holes slated for Tuesday with tee times beginning at 9:30 a.m.
The 14-team field also includes Gardner-Webb, Francis Marion, High Point, Radford, Winthrop, Appalachian State, Elon, Furman, Samford and Wofford.
