Men's Golf Finishes Fall Season in Solid Third

.-Behind nationally ranked Central Florida (34th) and Vanderbilt
(63rd), The University of Akron men's golf team finished its fall
season on a high note Tuesday taking third at the Hummingbird
Invitational hosted by Western Carolina University at the Country
Club of Sapphire Valley.
The Zips, who posted their highest finish to date this season,
carded two rounds of 293-285 (578) on the the par-71, 6,767-yard
course.
Freshmen Scott Landreth (Stratford, Ontario/St. Michael)
led the Zips for the first time this season finishing 11th of the
82-player field after carding a 143 (70-73). His finish was the
highest ever of his collegiate career.
Fellow freshman Tim Lew (Courtice, Ontario/Courtice Secondary)
and senior David Addison (Stewarton, Scotland/Stewarton
Academy) finished closely behind Landreth tied for 12th. Both shot
identical rounds of 74-70 (144).
Newcomer Ryan Mason (Bridgeport, WV/Bridgeport) moved up
seven spots from his day one finish ending the tournament tied for
31st carding two rounds of 75-71 (147).
Junior Jacob Patte (Oshawa, Ontario/Eastdale Collegiate)
rounded out the Zips scorecard putting up a 78-77 (155) at the
event.
The University of Central Florida won the tournament carding a 557,
edging out Vanderbilt by a stroke to win the team championship.
The 14-team field also included Gardner-Webb, Francis Marion, High
Point, Radford, Winthrop, Appalachian State, Elon, Furman, Samford
and Wofford.
The Zips will prep for the 2009 spring season over the winter and
return to action Feb. 23-24 for the Rio Pinar Intercollegiate
hosted by UCF in Orlando, Fla.
