Tennis Completes Day One of Big Green Invitational

HANOVER, N.H. The University of Akron
women's tennis team scored a pair of singles wins and one doubles
victory over Temple on Friday in the first day of competition at
the Big Green Invitational at Dartmouth. The event, which runs
through Sunday, is not being team scored.
UA freshman Zara Harutyunyan and senior Tanyaradzwa
Gombera were responsible for the Zips' two singles wins.
Harutyunyan scored a 7-5, 7-6 (6) victory over Elyse Steiner at the
No. 1 position, while Gombera topped Lucie Pazderova 6-7 (2), 6-3,
10-8 at the No. 3 slot.
Harutyunyan teamed up with sophomore Anna
Baronayte at No. 1 doubles to defeat the Owls' top pair of
Steiner and Dina Senkina, 9-8 (4).
The Big Green Invitational continues on Saturday, with Akron
scheduled to match-up with Massachusetts. Boston University and
Syracuse are also participating in the event.
