Tennis Gains Six Wins In Day Two Of Big Green Invite

HANOVER, N.H. – The University of Akron
tennis team tallied three singles wins and three doubles victories,
and saw one of its players reach a career milestone on Saturday in
the second day of competition at the Big Green Invitational at
Dartmouth. The event, which concludes on Sunday, is not being team
scored.
The Zips' singles wins came against Massachusetts. Freshman Zara
Harutyunyan recording a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1 over Candynce
Boney, senior Tanyaradzwa Gombera defeated Kaitlyne Carpenter
6-1, 6-3 at No. 3, and sophomore Jeremie
Benjamin topped Maude Lecluyse 6-4, 7-6 (4) at No. 4. Both
Harutyunyan and Gombera are 2-0 in singles play in the event.

Baronayte notched two more No. 1 doubles wins, improving their
weekend mark to 3-0. On Saturday, they topped the UMass pair of
Lecluyse and Boney 8-2, and then disposed of the Dartmouth duo of
Carrisa King and Shelley Carpeni by the same score.
The Akron pair of seniors Alyssa Carlson and Lindsey
Berry turned in an 8-4 win at No. 3 over the Syracuse team of
Victoria Ford and Katlyn Haycock. Berry's win gives her 40 career
doubles victories, tying her for 15th on the program's all-time
list.
