Men's Golf Tied for Fifth After Day One
May 03 | Men's Golf
Nashport, Ohio-After day one of play at the 2008 Mid-American Conference men's golf championships the Zips and senior Colin Clemente are tied for fifth place at the Longaberger Golf Club.
The Zips fell one spot from their first round finish of fourth
place ending the day with a two-round score of 604 (299-305).
"After a solid team score for the first 18, we couldn't quite keep it together during the afternoon," said head coach Nick Goetze. "A few bogie's down the stretch were a bit frustrating but I still feel like we can post a good number to get back in the mix at the end of tomorrow. Clemente's play was very steady and I know that the rest of the boys still have their best rounds ahead of them."
Clemente posted a solid 145 (+1) after day one carding rounds of 72 and 73 on the par-72, 7,342-yard course.
Freshman Drew Davidson, sophomore Jacob Patte and senior Ryan Gutowski all posted scores ranking them in the top-30 on the day. Davidson currently sits tied for 22nd posting a overall score of 152 (75-77) and Patte and Gutowski are both tied for 28th place posted a 154. Freshman Doug Underwood rounds out the Zips scorecard shooting a 157 (77-80).
Akron will resume play with round three tomorrow with live scoring available here.
