Team Sits in Fifth; Clemente Moves to First

Nashport, Ohio-The University of Akron men's golf team remains in fifth place Saturday while senior Colin Clemente moves into first place at the 2008 Mid-American Conference championships held at the Longaberger Golf Club.
Only two back of Ohio University, the Zips have compiled a 56-hole score of 903 (299-305-299) on the par-72, 7,342-yard course.
"Our team knew that a steady round in the wind and rain would put us into position for the final day and we succeeded," said first year head coach Nick Goetze. "We played patient, conservative golf all the way. Clemente's score was key for our team performance and I'm excited that he'll have a great chance to win the individual title tomorrow. In the team race, although Kent and Eastern Michigan are running away. I think we can climb into third if we stick to our game plan and stay focused."
Clemente finished day one tied for fifth place but ran away with first Saturday afternoon when he finished 2-under 70. His three round score of 215 (72-73-70) sits 2-under his competitors in second and puts him in a great position for the overall tournament victory on Sunday.
Also improving from day one was sophomore Jacob Patte who moved up six spots from yesterday finishing day two tied for 22nd. Shooting his best round today, Patte has carded a two-day total 229 (78-76-75).
Sitting in third for UA and tied for 27th overall is senior Ryan
Gutowski who shot a 77 today bringing his three round total to
231 (75-79-77). Finishing closely behind Gutowski is freshmen Drew
Davidson and Doug Underwood sitting respectively tied for 31st
(75-77-80) and 33rd (77-80-77).
