Clemente Named Academic All-American

Akron, Ohio-The Golf Coaches Association of
America recently announced that Zips senior Colin
Clemente was named to the 2008 Cleveland Golf All-Academic team
after a stellar year in the classroom and on the course.
A 3.2 grade point average while obtaining a degree in biology, the
NCAA All-American nod is the first of his career and third academic
honor as Clemente was twice named Academic All-Mid-American
Conference throughout his stellar career.
A total of 96 players earned the honor in Division I and 26 in
Division II. Additionally, nine honorees were added to the
previously released Division III Cleveland Golf All-America
Scholards.
To be eligible for the Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an
individual must be a junior or senior academically and compete in
at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in
70-percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA
Championships, have a stroke average under 76.0 in Division I and
maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2
A recipient must also be of high moral character and in good
standing at his college or university.
An outstanding player for Akron, Clemente was the Zips' top golfer
in 2007-08 posting seven top-10 and ten top-25 finishes in 13
tournaments of play including a fourth place finish at the MAC
Championships (May 2-4, 2008) where he carded a 290 (72-73-70-75)
earning him a spot on the all-tournament team.
After a great season, Clemente was also named to the 2008 All-MAC
first team after being named to the second team in 2007.
Clemente earned MAC Golfer of the Week honors three times in his
career with his latest honor coming after his performance at the
Xavier Invitational (Oct. 1-2, 2007) where he carded 12-under 204
(69-69-66).
Clemente graduated in May 2008 with his undergraduate degree in
biology and looks to further his education at The University of
Akron.
