Men's Golf to Begin Fall Season at Adams Cup

AKRON, OHIO.-- The University of Akron men's golf team will open its 2008 fall season at the 15th annual Adams Cup of Newport/Cleveland Golf Classic on Sept. 22-23 at the Newport National Golf Club.
Over the past 14 years, the Adams Cup of Newport, hosted by the University of Rhode Island, has developed into one of the finest golf tournaments on the East Coast, annually attracting some of the top NCAA golf programs in the country. This year, the field is comprised of 16 teams from 11 different states and 13 conferences.
The Orchard Course at Newport National Golf Club - from the championship tees - is a par-72, 7,244-yard course designed by legendary course architect Arthur Hills.
The Zips are led by second year head coach Nick Goetze who is assisted by former Akron standout Colin Clemente.
UA finished fifth at the Mid-American Conference Championships
last spring led by Clemente who finished fourth overall. Current
junior Jacob Patte and sophomore Drew
Davidson finished respectively at 23rd and 24th.
