Tennis Claims Three Top Finishes At BGSU Invitational

Castro Cota claimed the championship in their respective
singles flight and teamed up to win the flight 1 doubles bracket on
Sunday in the final day of the BGSU Invitational, held at Keefe
Courts on the campus of Bowling Green.
Harutyunyan defeated Cincinnati's Safiyya Ismail 6-1, 6-0 in the
flight 1 singles finale. Throughout the two-day event she lost only
four games. Castro Cota tallied a three-set victory in the flight 4
singles championship, defeating BGSU's Katia Babina 1-6, 6-1, 7-6
(2). Later, Harutyunyan and Castro Cota topped Detroit's Annie
Moore and Zelika Minic 8-2 in the flight 1 doubles title
match-up.
Two UA athletes posted third-place finishes in their singles
bracket, with sophomore Anna Baronayte doing so in flight 2 and
senior Tanyaradzwa Gombera performing the feat in flight
3. Baronayte and Gombera joined forces to finish third in flight 2
doubles play, as did the Zips' pair of sophomore Jeremie
Benjamin and senior Lindsey Berry in flight 3. Akron senior Alyssa
Carlson and junior Kerry Langworthy were runners-up in the
flight 4 doubles bracket.

Akron will continue its fall schedule next Saturday and Sunday
(Sept. 27-28) at the Spartan Invitational on the Michigan State
campus in East Lansing, Mich.
