Tennis Wraps Up Day Two of Wildcat Invitational
October 11 | Women's Tennis
- University of Akron freshmen twin sisters Angelina and Angelika Jogasuria each posted 1-1 records in flight A singles on Saturday to highlight the Zips' play in day two of the Wildcat Fall Invitational at Northwestern's Vandy Christie Tennis Center.
Angelina won her first round match 6-2, 6-4 over DePaul's Katarina Milinkovic and then lost 6-3, 6-3 to South Carolina's Ana Marija Zubori, who is ranked 29th nationally. Angelika lost her first round contest 6-4, 6-4 to DePaul's Anna Redesci, who is ranked 66th in the country, and then scored a 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (6) victory over Notre Dame's Kristen Rafael.
Versus Rafael, Angelika held off four match points trailing 6-2 in the third set tiebreaker to claim what is believed to be the first-ever win by an Akron player over Notre Dame in either singles or doubles. While not currently ranked, Rafael was listed No. 62 in the nation in January 2009 and Notre Dame was a NCAA semifinalist last season.
UA junior Carolina Castro Cota went 1-1 in flight D, posting a 6-3, 6-2 win over South Carolina's Main after falling in her first match of the day.
The 10-team event is scheduled to conclude on Sunday, with competition getting underway at 10 a.m. ET.
