- Three University of Akron tennis players earned singles victories on Sunday in the third and final day of the Wildcat Fall Invitational, being held at Northwestern's Vandy Christie Tennis Center.
In A singles bracket play, UA freshman Angelika Jogasuria tallied a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 win over Alessandra Ferrazzi from Minnesota, while freshman Prang Pantusart topped Wisconsin's Aleksandra Markovic 6-3, 7-6 (2). In flight B, junior Anya Baronayte fought back to defeat Michigan State's Amy Barton 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Due to delays earlier in the weekend because of inclement weather, the title matches in singles flights A, B, and C where not played and competition in doubles did not continue after Friday.
As a team, Akron will be idle until Nov. 6-8 when it travels to Texas to compete in the Cougar Invitational at the University of Houston. The Zips will wait and see how many of its players will be selected to compete in the ITA Midwest Regional, to be held at Northwestern on Oct. 22-27.
