Zips Finish Second Day At ITA Midwest Regional
October 24 | Women's Tennis
- University of Akron freshman tennis player Prang Pantusart scored a victory in Friday's singles qualifier round of 16 to highlight the Zips' second day of competition at the Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Championships. The event, which runs through Tuesday, is being held at Northwestern's Combe Indoor Tennis Center.
Pantusart's 6-2, 7-5 win over DePaul's Kirsten Gambrell places her in the singles main draw, where she will face off against Michigan State's Whitney Wilson on Saturday. Pantusart will be one of four UA athletes competing in the main draw, joining sophomore Zara Harutyunyan and freshmen twin sisters Angelika and Angelina Jogasuria.
In Friday's doubles main draw round of 32, the Zips' pairs of Pantusart and Angelika Jogasuria, and Harutyunyan and Angelina Jogasuria each suffered losses after earning a bye out of the opening round of 64. Harutyunyan and Angelina fell 8-5 to Illinois' Megan Fudge and Breanne Smutko, while Pantusart and Angelika gave up a 9-8 decision to Marquette's Gillian Hush and Maggie Wilson.
The singles finalists and doubles champion from this event will earn spots in the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships.
