Tennis Finishes Up Competition at ITA Midwest Regional

- The University of Akron women's tennis team scored three straight-set wins in Saturday's opening round of 64 in the singles main draw at the Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Championships, but went on to drop all four of its contests in the round of 32 to close out its participation in the event. The Regional is being held at Northwestern's Combe Indoor Tennis Center.
Scoring wins in the opening round, were freshmen Angelina Jogasuria, Angelika Jogasuria and Prang Pantusart. Angelina topped Ohio State's Fidan Manishirova 7-5, 6-2, Angelika downed Ohio State's Kelsey Haviland 6-2, 6-2 and Pantusart got the best of Michigan's Mimi Nguyen 6-2, 6-2. UA sophomore Zara Harutyunyan had a first round bye.
In the round of 32, Angelina lost 6-3, 6-3 to Ohio State's Kirsten Flower, Pantusart fell 6-4, 6-1 to Iowa's Sonja Molnar (ranked 72nd nationally), Harutyunyan was upset 7-6 (4), 6-3 by Ohio State's Christina Keesey and Angelika dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Kali Krisik from Notre Dame.
The Zips will return to action on Nov. 6-8 when they travel to the Cougar Invitational at the University of Houston.
