Men's Golf Wraps First Day at Aldila Invitational
October 27 | Men's Golf
Chattanooga, Tenn. - Participating in the 2009 Aldila Scenic City Invitational, The University of Akron men's golf team sits 12th, carding a 590 (+14) after two rounds of play on the par-72, 6,999-yard Council Fire Golf Club.
"The guys played a solid round this morning and we almost kept it going through the second round," noted head coach Nick Goetze. " The fast greens and challenging pin locations made it tough to make birdies and par saves as well. Although we lost a few strokes coming down the stretch, we still have a chance to finish strong tomorrow"
Akron is led by junior standout Lucas Murray who is carding a 145 (69-76) and tied for 24th in the 90-player field.
Following Murray is sophomore Ryan Mason and freshman Cameron Simmons who both tallied two-round scores of 147 to finish the day tied for 36th. Mason started the day off with a 75 posting a 72 in the second round. Simmons carded a consistent 74-73.
Scott Landreth and Doug Underwood carded respective scores of 152 (tied 66) and 156 (tied 81) to round out the Zips' scorecard on the day.
The event co-hosted by No. 18 University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Middle Tennessee State features some of the nation's elite. Other teams participating in the 17-team field include Charlotte, College of Charleston, Eastern Michigan, Francis Marion, Furman, Iowa State, Kennesaw State, Maryland, Mercer, Missouri, South Florida, Southern Miss, Western Carolina and Wichita State.
