"We played well today in some very rainy conditions," said third year-head coach Nick Goetze. "Our second round made it difficult to gain a lot of ground on the team's ahead of us, but everyone stayed patient and kept grinding."
For the third time this season, Akron was led by junior standout
Lucas Murray who carded
69-76-72 (217) in the 90-player field. Entering the event holding
the lowest scoring average in the Mid-American Conference, Murray
tied for 21st overall. Freshman Cameron Simmons followed
posting a 221 in the event carding a consistent 74-73-74 (221)
tying for the 33rd spot.

Fellow sophomore Doug Underwood rounded out
the Zips scorecard posting a 231 (80-76-75).
The event co-hosted by No. 18 University of Tennessee at
Chattanooga and Middle Tennessee State featured some of the
nation's elite. Other teams that participated in the 17-team field
included Charlotte, College of Charleston, Eastern Michigan,
Francis Marion, Furman, Iowa State, Kennesaw State, Maryland,
Mercer, Missouri, South Florida, Southern Miss, Western Carolina
and Wichita State.
Middle Tennessee State won the team title while taking home a portion of the individual title. Posting a team score of 851 (287-286-278), MTSU's Kent Bulle and Hunter Green along with Wichita State's Dustin Garza tied for first carding a six-under 210 in the event.
The Zips have one tournament remaining in their fall schedule, which is set for next Monday and Tuesday (Nov. 2-3) when UA will travel to Cashiers, N.C. for the Western Carolina Intercollegiate.
